"I've decided to buy all my appliances from Abt. After reading about Mike Abt in the GO TO 2040 Plan, I was impressed with his commitment to the environment. Not only is he saving money by being environmentally efficient, he is showing people how it can be done and why it's good for business. They are locally-based here in Chicago, they have free shipping, and the whole process is super easy! "

"Avoid - unprofessional

I have placed an order for the Nikon 800. Abt pre-debited my account but was not able to process the order since "they could not verify all my bank details". This basically means that they couldn't check my credit history... I have placed the order with my debit card so it's a nonsense (and I have no credit history since I am new in this country). I have cancelled the order and I got a message from client service saying that I would have to wait 72 business hours more before being refunded. This was a pre-debit and according to what client service initially told me they supposed to refund the money today. Never again"

“Abt apologizes for any problems the customer experienced with their order. It is our standard procedure to request a pre-authorization from the credit card company/bank before we process the order. The pre-authorization will confirm that your bank has sufficient funds available. The funds are not actually removed from the account until the order actually ships. For security and fraud purposes, we verify account information when an order is placed. If we are unable to verify the information, the credit card company has us cancel and refund the order immediately (and we then send the customer notification of the charge reversal). If the customer wanted to proceed with the order, we offered a wire transfer as an alternate method of payment. The customer opted to cancel the order. Normally the pending authorization drops from the account within 1-3 business days. We were in communication with the issuing bank and requested to expedite this process.”

"I am completely satisfied with my first Abt experience. The site had a 'click to see price' option on the TV I wanted. The response came back quickly with close to $60 less than the price shown on search sites. I called to make sure the price was for new (not refurbished or open box) and then ordered. The TV arrived on 3/14, 2 days ahead of the estimated delivery date (set at 3/16-3/21 on the order confirmation). Shipping was free, there was no damage to the box or TV and nothing was missing. "

"Don't buy from them unless you are willing to sit at home for the delivery since they do not allow you to either sign a release form or pick up from local UPS. I was not at home to pick up when they tried to deliver 2 times and when I called their customer service they said this is for security reason which is good however why so much restriction that I cannot even go and pick from UPS location showing my id? Anyway the shipping department called (which was nice) and said they will call UPS to allow for me to pick up the item in the evening however when I called UPS later in the evening they said that they had received no such notification and they would not release it. This was not nice i.e. why call customer and tell them they can pick it up same day when they cannot. Finally this was held in the UPS the next day and I could go and pick it up. I have ordered so many items online however have never seen such rigid restrictions which is annoying."

“Abt apologizes for the problem and any inconvenience this customer has experienced. For high valued items, we require the order to be delivered to the address that the customer enters when the order is placed. This is a fraud security measure. Orders can be picked up, if they contact us directly to change the delivery method. Abt contacted UPS to arrange pick up for the customer, please note these requests are not instant and may take up to 24 hours for their system to update. We suggest for the customer to contact UPS to confirm unit is available for pick up prior to heading out to the UPS hub. The UPS tracking detailed tracking report shows the order was held for pick up on 3/14 and the customer picked up the unit on 3/15.”

"Item is ok. ABT is not. ABT requires a signature on delivery. You must receive the item at your home. ABT does not allow UPS to release item at UPS faciltiy with photo ID and signature. If you cannot be at home to receive item during the day then item will be returned to ABT after third delivery attempt and you must pay return shipping and restocking charges to ABT. BEWARE Again ABT will not release item even at UPS distribution facility, only at your address. This is one crazy shipping policy. I have never encountered anything like this and they will make no exceptions. "

“Abt apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused you. For security and fraud purposes, Paypal orders must be delivered to the address submitted via Paypal for fulfillment. If an order is returned undeliverable, Abt does not charge return shipping or a restocking fee. We have checked the order, and this item did not ship with a signature requirement. If there is no signature requirement, it is at UPS's discretion if they leave a package or require a signature. The tracking detail report shows UPS did not leave the package on their first attempt, but did leave the package on their second attempt. In the future, we suggest to ship to an alternate address where someone will be able to accept the delivery.”

"I ordered a hard to find item from them on Tuesday and it was at my door on Friday with free shipping. The item was a few dollars more than at other merchants but it was worth it since it was sold out everywhere else. I would recommend Abt Electronics."

"I WOULD ORDER AGAIN FROM ABT ELECTRONICS AND I WILL RECOMMEND ABT ELECTRONICS TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
On January 19, 2012, I ordered a Whirlpool Stainless Steel Double Oven from ABT Electronics in Glenview, IL. Just one week later January 26, 2012 my ovens were delivered and I live in Las Vegas Nevada. Great Job ABT !!!!

ABT Electronics was able to accomplish in one week what US Appliance couldn't do in more than a half of a month. Shame on US Appliance. "

"Monday at approximately 10:00 AM MST I placed an order over the phone with Dennis Bimel for a dumbbell stand priced at $109.99 with free shipping. He stated there were 2 in the store and that, in addition to the email with my order information, I'd get a subsequent email with the tracking information. At the conclusion of the call, my checking account showed the proper debit amount for the product.

Tuesday my order status on the ABT website did not show the item had shipped, nor had I received the email with tracking info. According to an evening Live Chat session I had, my charges hadn't been paid. I advised the rep I provided my card information the previous day and my account showed the $199.99 had been subtracted. She then checked with the processing department to verify. The rep then replied the item would be shipped out the following day (Wednesday). The order status changed to "Order Scheduled for Shipment".

Wednesday evening I still had no email with tracking information and the order status had not changed. Another Live Chat session to check when the item would be shipped was futile. The rep stated, "We have just received this model in stock. In order to ship out your unit, we do need a method of payment. Please contact our customer service department...to provide payment." JUST received in stock? On Monday it was there when I ordered and nothing was mentioned Tuesday about the product being missing or delayed. Need a method of payment? After the card information had already been given at the time I placed the order AND verified with the rep the day before?? The rep responded a "pending authorization" was placed on my card, but the charge hadn't actually been put through. However she'd ensure my card was authorized again and the item shipped out tomorrow. Sorry. I already heard that one yesterday. I directed her to do nothing else with my card and to cancel the purchase.

I'd much rather drive 30 miles one way to pay more from a local store than play an online shell game and wonder when my product may or may not even ship.

Wednesday night update: My bank account now shows a 2nd "pending authorization" for the same amount. As such, I do not have access to over $200 of my money. I called CS and was told a 2nd authorization had been placed on my card prior to having the order cancelled, but they have submitted the funds to be placed back into my account. Completely unacceptable practice to withhold funds a second time without authorization from the customer especially when I expressly said to not submit any further charges to the account. The rep said it should take approximately 4 business days to have my funds "released". As today is Wednesday, that puts my money on hold until possibly Tuesday of next week. Just got an email invoice showing a refund AFTER I completed the phone call. However, the invoice is for only 1 charge. I replied and said I needed an additional refund invoice for the 2nd charge as well."

"I bought a Haier 2.7 cf mini refrigerator. I was concerned becaue I had never even heard of Abt before. But their prices on line for new units weres lower than anything I saw for similar refurbuished units on eBay. Even teh shipping cost was half the price of most eBay sellers. The refrigerator arrived remarkably fast - just 3 days after I placed my order! It came in perfect condition. No dings or scratches. Works great with no noise at all. "
